NEET UG counselling 2026: frequently asked questions
The questions candidates actually ask MCC, answered from the official bulletin.
·7 min read
These answers are condensed from the FAQ chapter of the official MCC NEET-UG Information Bulletin 2026. Where a rule has a hard edge, it is flagged - those are the ones that cost candidates seats.
Do I have to join my Round 1 seat to participate in Round 2?
No. Round 1 allotted candidates have a free exit option - you can leave without forfeiting your security deposit. If you want to keep the seat and not upgrade, report physically at the college as a Freeze candidate. If you want to upgrade, give willingness online as a Float candidate, and no physical visit is needed.
I did not get a seat in Round 1. Do I register again for Round 2?
No. Candidates who registered for Round 1 and were not allotted a seat do not need to register again, and neither do candidates who did not report. Only candidates who never registered in Round 1 need a fresh registration with full payment of fees.
Can I participate in the next round using the choices I filled last time?
No. Fresh choice submission is required for every round. If you do not submit fresh choices during the choice-filling window, you will not be considered for allotment in that round and will simply retain the seat you already hold, if any.
If I go into the next round, do I lose my current seat?
Only if you are actually upgraded. If no seat is allotted to you in Round 2, you retain your Round 1 seat; if none in Round 3, you retain your Round 2 seat. But when you are upgraded, the earlier seat is cancelled automatically and given to another candidate, and you have no claim over it. Fill only choices you genuinely prefer over your current seat.
Can I join an upgraded college directly?
Yes. You can join the college directly on an upgraded seat.
What is 'exit with forfeiture'?
It means leaving a seat allotted in Round 2 or a later round without joining it, and losing the security deposit you paid. Round 1 carries a free exit instead. Candidates who forfeit and then want to participate in Round 3 must pay a fresh security deposit.
Can I resign after joining a Round 2 seat?
You can submit willingness for upgradation to Round 3. But if you join and then resign, you forfeit your security deposit.
Can I resign after joining a Round 3 seat?
No. Once you join a Round 3 seat you cannot vacate it. If you exit with forfeiture of the security deposit, you are eliminated from all further rounds.
In Round 3, do both Freeze and Float candidates report physically?
Yes. After the Round 3 provisional allotment result, physical reporting is mandatory for all Round 3 allotted candidates, and for Float candidates from Rounds 1 and 2 who did not get upgraded.
How are the seats for the stray vacancy round decided?
Seats left vacant by non-joining or non-reporting after Round 2 are published in the seat matrix for Round 3, and the same principle carries into the stray round. Fresh registration and fresh choice filling are required for the stray round.
Can I get an idea of what seat my rank might get?
MCC suggests looking at the composite allotment lists from previous years on its website, along with the course and category-wise opening and closing ranks in the Download section. Those are indicative only, with no guarantee for the current year - cutoffs move every year with the number of candidates and seats.
Is there a limit on how many choices I can fill?
No, you can fill as many as you want. They must be in genuine preference order, because allotment works strictly down your list. One common software covers AIQ, Deemed, Central Universities, B.Sc. Nursing, AIIMS, JIPMER, AMU and BHU.
I locked my choices and made a mistake. Can it be corrected?
No. Once locked, choices cannot be modified or unlocked - not even by MCC. If you do not lock them yourself, they are locked automatically as per schedule. Review the whole list before locking, and do not leave it to the last minute.
I picked the wrong quota at registration. Can I change it?
There is a reset initialisation option on the registration page that clears your quota choice, available once only. After using it you have to register afresh and pay the full fee again.
How long do I get to join the allotted college?
The joining window is fixed in the counselling schedule and MCC will not extend it under any circumstances. Contact the college as soon as the result is out - some colleges need 2-3 days for admission formalities, and local holidays and working hours vary. Do not aim for the last day.
I forgot my password. How do I recover it?
Enter the information you provided at registration along with your security question and answer. If it matches the registered database, you can set a new password. Note that passwords are case-sensitive - MCC suggests using the shift key rather than caps lock when creating one.
Why does my login keep failing?
Usually a mismatch with your NTA application form - use the same spellings and the same date format. An interrupted internet connection also changes the IP address the counselling software is monitoring, which expires the session. Use a stable connection on a laptop or desktop with an updated browser.
Who do I contact at MCC?
Administrative queries go to adgme@nic.in. Finance, accounts and refund matters go to financemcc@lifecarehll.com, and other Financial Custodian issues to callcentremcc@lifecarehll.com or 1800-102-7637. Mail sent to the wrong address is not considered, and replies come during office hours only, 10:00 to 18:00.
Which colleges can your rank actually get?
Enter your NEET All India Rank and category to see every seat that closed at or after your rank last year, with a Competitive / Moderate / Safe verdict for each. Built on the official MCC and AACCC Round 1-3 allotment lists.
